Next week Tri-County R-7 Elementary students in kindergarten through fourth grade will soon get a glimpse of what next year has in store through the school’s annual “Step Up” activity. Designed to ease transitions and build excitement, the event allows students to experience the classrooms and expectations of the grade level they will enter for the 2026–2027 school year.

Students in kindergarten through third grade will spend about an hour in their future classrooms, meeting their new teachers and learning about what will be expected of them in the coming year. After their visit, they will head to lunch with their classmates.

Fourth-grade students, who will be moving on to middle school, will have a more in-depth introduction. They will tour the middle school building, meet several of their future teachers, and learn about the structure of a middle school schedule next year, where they will change classes every hour. To complete their visit, fourth graders will also join middle school students for lunch.

Preschool students will take part in their own version of Step Up on May 5th. They will spend some time in the morning in the kindergarten classroom, getting comfortable with the new environment and routines. They will also accompany the kindergarten students to lunch, helping them feel more prepared and confident for the transition ahead.

The Step Up activity is an important opportunity for Tri-County R-7 students to build familiarity, reduce anxiety, and look forward to the next stage of their education.
