Moms Breaking the Silence: Bringing Hope and Awareness to Schools

Moms Breaking the Silence met with the middle and high school students at Tri-County on September 10th. They are a group of courageous mothers who visit schools to share powerful, personal stories about how suicide and mental illness have impacted their lives. Through their assemblies, they open the door to honest conversations that many students may be afraid to have.

Their message is clear: it’s okay to talk about stress, anxiety, and struggles. By encouraging students to speak openly, they help break down the stigma surrounding mental health. The moms also take time to explain the important difference between sadness—something everyone feels at times—and depression, which can require extra care, support, and attention.

With compassion and honesty, Moms Breaking the Silence remind students that they are never alone. Their mission is to break the silence, to shine a light on hope, and to remind every student: you matter.

Students left with an uplifting message and many students also got t-shirts, stress balls, or hats.
